You know, that CopyOMEGA, they make some fancy watches. I saw this one, the Speedmaster Apollo 8 “Dark Side of the Moon”, it’s a mouthful, ain’t it? They say it’s for sale in those fancy “specialty stores”, whatever that means.
This here watch, it’s somethin’ else. They say it’s like havin’ the moon right there on your wrist. Now, I ain’t never been to the moon, but I seen it in the sky plenty of times. This watch, it’s got that “Dark Side of the Moon” look, all black and mysterious like.
They got this thing called a “chronograph”. I think it’s like a fancy stopwatch, for them folks who need to time things real precise. I don’t know why ya need all that, but these rich folks do. And the dial is skeletonised, so you can see all the fancy things inside the watch. I don’t know why you need to see what’s inside a watch, but it is kind of cool, I guess.
This OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8, it’s supposed to be about some big trip to the moon. Apollo 8, they call it. Back in, I think it was 1968, or somethin’ like that. They went around the moon, I heard. Musta been somethin’, seein’ the Earth from way up there.
Now, this ain’t no cheap watch. I heard someone say it’s like, $12,500! Can you believe that? For a watch! That’s more than I made in a whole year, back in my day. But I guess some folks got money to burn. I saw this Omega Speedmaster Listing, it said “Brand” new. Well, I should hope so for that price!
They got some fancy words for the inside parts too. “OMEGA Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869”. Sounds like a mouthful of marbles, don’t it? Just a bunch of gears and springs, I reckon, but they make it sound all important.

And on the back, they got writin’. Says “APOLLO 8, Dec 1968″ and somethin’ about “we’ll see you on the other side”. I guess that’s what them astronaut folks said when they went around the moon.
They say this Calibre 3869 is like another one, the 3861, but they did somethin’ to it with a laser. Made it look like the moon, they say. They call it “laser ablation”. Sounds painful, but I guess it made the watch look pretty. They say it mimics the near side of the moon, which is the side we see at night.
Omega, they sure know how to make a fuss about these watches. They said they “jolted up” the Speedmaster Dark Side of The Moon “Apollo 8” series. I don’t know what that means, but it sounds excitin’, I guess. I guess they just like making people talk about their watches, huh?
Well, I don’t know about all that fancy stuff. But it is a pretty watch, I’ll give ‘em that. If I had that kinda money, maybe I’d buy one. But then again, I could buy a whole lotta other things with $12,500. Like a new tractor, maybe. Or a whole bunch of chickens.
I reckon this CopyOMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 8 is for them city folks, with their fancy stores and their need for these “luxury Swiss” things. Me, I’m happy with my old watch. It tells the time just fine. Don’t need no moon on my wrist to do that. But hey, to each their own, right?
I guess if you like the moon and you got a lot of money, this Dark Side of the Moon watch might be for you. It is kind of neat how they made it look like the moon, I have to admit. I can appreciate that. I reckon it’s something special, even if it is a bit too much for an old gal like me. They did good with it, I guess.
