Okay, so I wanted to try and recreate something from the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Control Date watch that I saw on their official flagship store. I’m not a pro at this, but I thought it’d be a fun project to mess around with.
First, I spent some time just staring at the watch on their site. I zoomed in on the images, trying to get a good look at all the little details, like the way the numbers are shaped, the hands, the date window, you know, all that stuff. It’s pretty intricate when you really look closely.
Then, I started sketching out some ideas on paper. I drew out the basic circle shape and marked down where I thought the numbers should go. I’m not an artist, so these sketches were pretty rough, just to get a general idea of the layout.
- Figured out the font they used for the numbers. It’s a pretty classic, clean-looking font.
- Noticed the hands are super thin and elegant.
- Saw that the date window has a little bevel around it, which adds a nice touch.
After that, I moved to my computer and started playing around with a design software. I mostly used basic shapes to build the watch face. I used a circle for the main face. added lines for the hour markers, and then I put in the numbers one by one, trying to match the font and size as best as I could.
The hands were a bit tricky. I ended up just using really thin rectangles and rotated them to match the position on the real watch. I also added a tiny circle in the middle where the hands connect.
For the date window, I made a small rectangle and tried to give it that beveled look by adding some shadows. It took a lot of experimenting to get it to look decent, but i think i got it to a point where i am happy with it. I had some color scheme in mind and finalized it.
It’s definitely not a perfect replica. Some things are a bit off, and it doesn’t have that super polished look of the real thing, but overall, I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It was a fun little project, and I learned a lot about the design details of this Jaeger-LeCoultre watch. I think I’ll try to mimic another design next week, maybe something a little more complicated. I have no idea what to expect, but that’s the fun of it all, right?
