Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with this project lately, right? It’s about trying to remake a Patek Philippe watch. Yeah, that’s the one. Fancy name, huh? Specifically, it’s the Calatrava model, the 5088/100P-001. Long name for a watch, I know.
First off, I started by just looking at a bunch of pictures online. I mean, a whole bunch. I zoomed in, checked out all the little details, you know? I wanted to get a real good feel for this thing before I even thought about starting.
Finding the Parts
Then came the fun part – finding the parts. Now, I’m not made of money, so getting the exact same materials as the original? Forget about it. I had to find stuff that looked similar but didn’t cost an arm and a leg. I spent hours, days even, browsing online stores. I compared this and that, read reviews, the whole nine yards.
- Case: This was tricky. I found a decent-looking case, but it wasn’t perfect. But hey, it’s a start.
- Dial: The dial, oh boy. The original has this fancy engraving. I found a plain black dial that I figured I could try to do something to it.
- Hands: The hands were easier. I found some that were pretty close to the original shape.
- Movement: I got a cheap quartz movement. Not the same as the fancy automatic one in the real deal, but it’ll do for now.
Putting It Together
Once I had all the parts, I started putting it together. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy. Those little screws, man, they’re a pain. My eyes were about to pop out I was focusing on it so hard. But slowly, it started to look like a watch.
The Dial Work
I tried to do some engraving on the dial, just to make it look a bit more like the real one. I used a small tool I had lying around. It didn’t come out perfect, but it gave it a little something, you know? Not bad for a first try, I guess.
The Final Result
So, after all that work, I finally finished it. It’s not an exact replica, not by a long shot. But it looks kinda like a Patek Philippe Calatrava. I wear it sometimes, just for fun. It’s a reminder of the time I spent on this crazy project. It was a good time, I learned a lot, and that is all that matters.
