Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to remake this YSL bag, the LE CARRé SATCHEL, for a while now. It’s just so classy, you know? And I found out that the real deal is way cheaper in Europe, like 20% cheaper! But, hey, I’m not flying to Paris just for a bag, so I figured, why not try making my own? Plus, who doesn’t love a good DIY project, right?
First off, I needed to get a good look at this beauty. I spent hours just staring at pictures online, zooming in on every little detail. This bag, it’s like those fancy city cars – shiny and stylish. I noticed the authentic ones have this really consistent stitching around the edges. That’s something I knew I had to get right.
Then, the materials. I went to my local craft store, feeling like a kid in a candy shop. I found some really nice leather, not exactly like the original, but hey, it’s my version, right? I also picked up some sturdy thread and a few tools. I’m not a pro at this, but I’ve dabbled in leatherwork before, so I wasn’t starting from zero.
The cutting was the hardest part. Getting those clean lines, making sure everything was symmetrical – it took me a couple of tries, and let’s just say there were a few scraps of leather on the floor. But eventually, I got it. I even managed to do some basic matelass, giving it a bit of that quilted look.
- Cutting the leather: This was tough! Took a few attempts to get the clean lines I wanted.
- Stitching: I used a simple saddle stitch. It’s strong and looks pretty neat. My lines weren’t perfect, but hey, it’s handmade!
- Adding the hardware: I found some gold-toned pieces that looked similar to the original. This was the most satisfying part, seeing it all come together.
Putting it all together was like solving a puzzle. I started with the main body, then added the sides, the flap, the strap. Slowly but surely, it started to look like a bag. I even added a little pocket inside, ’cause who doesn’t need extra pockets?
Now, I know it’s not an exact replica. The original has this 12-digit serial number, and mine obviously doesn’t. Plus, mine doesn’t have that fancy dust bag. But you know what? I’m pretty proud of it. It’s got that same boxy shape, that same elegant vibe. And it holds all my stuff, which is the whole point of a bag, right?
My Final Thoughts
I’m not gonna lie, it was a lot of work. But it was also a lot of fun. And now I have a unique bag that I made with my own two hands. Would I do it again? Maybe. I saw this other YSL bag, the Le 5 � 7, and it comes in python! Now that would be a challenge… But for now, I’m just going to enjoy my homemade LE CARRé. And who knows, maybe I’ll start a new trend – DIY designer bags!
